When I was in Scotland two years ago, we took a boat to the Isle of Kerrera , which has more sheep than people (my kind of place!). I have a big mushy soft spot in my heart for animals and I delighted in watching how the sheep just roamed freely over the hills, by the coast, in the fields, perched upon rocks, watching us as we ambled past. We also walked the Fife Coastal Trail, along which I saw tufts of bright jewel-toned purple thistle popping up among wild grasses. Both of these experiences just stayed with me and I drew rough sketches of them in my sketchbook for safekeeping until I had the time to celebrate them in my art. As I tend to see things in whimsical perspective, I obviously didn’t go for realism here but rather my own creative interpretation of how I see them. This is the thing about painting I love most - being able to capture memories and bring my vision to life through art and to share it with you in a fun, lighthearted, playful way. 🐑🪻
