🌱Every year I plant nasturtiums in the garden, as they are said to attract beneficial insects to help the garden thrive. I also plant them, perhaps more so, because I love the whimsical shapes of the leaves and their frilly edges. I created this piece to celebrate them as I wait for growing season to start.
At season's end, I transfer them to the chicken yard so they can frolic in the mass of leaves before first frost arrives. I collect the seeds that have dropped and save them for next season.
🎨If you are not familiar with the color wheel, it is a tool that essentially gives us some insight into which colors complement each other, which provides visual contrast and can enhance the other's vibrancy. Generally yellow-orange and light blue are complementary colors- and this combination really helps to make the flowers pop!
While I wait patiently for summer to provide a new array of floral beauty, I paint from memories of seasons past and dreams of those to come.🌼
