I belong to a mentored group of artists and was recently asked why I create, and what brings the inspiration. So I got to thinking about why I paint the things I do and the way I tend to portray them- in other words, my art style. I deeply love the natural world - it brings me a lot of peace and happiness as well as creative inspiration. I enjoy the solitude and opportunity it provides to slow down and notice little things like the curl of a leaf, the flip of a flower petal, the way a piece of birch bark peels. But why do these seemingly peripheral, incidental things catch my attention and why do they always end up in my artwork? They often stop me in my tracks, just waiting to be acknowledged and celebrated. I think that in this always-busy-ever-changing world, I just feel compelled to capture and preserve these small quiet moments in time that nature offers. It is my hope that my work brings that same feeling to you. 🌿
