“Midsummer’s Day” is a 12”x24” painting of tall and majestic orange daylilies set against rich green foliage and a blue sky.
Do you call these Dayliles, tiger lilies, ditch lilies, or, for those of you with an inner botanist, hemerocallis fulva? Apparently they earned the name ‘ditch lily’ for their uncanny ability to grow in whatever undesirable condition Mother Nature throws at them. In any event, I call them daylilies, and they grow in a nice little patch along a stone wall in my front yard and also in a row along the side of my road. Technically they are considered naturalized yet invasive, but I can’t help but love how they reach up to the sky and brighten an otherwise dry sandy spot with a blast of color, like little firecrackers.
